What are cocktail bitters?

Bitters are a taste additive, therefore they are consumed in small amounts, by dashes or small drops. Bitters completely change the taste experience of cocktails and take them to a whole new level. Think of cocktail bitters as you would vanilla extract in baked goods a little bit adds an entirely new dimension.
Cocktails can be made by blending, shaking, stirring or layering. Cocktail drinkers are very particular to how their cocktails are prepared. Old Fashioned Cocktail Recipe
1 oz rye, bourbon or scotch whiskey
1 or 2 dashes of bitters
1 sugar cube
1 dash seltzer
1 cherry, for garnish
Pour all ingredients into glass. Muddle sugar until dissolved. Serve over ice. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel, orange slice or maraschino cherry. Serve in a No. 5 glass with highball spoon.
